CBVC Youth on the BeachApril 21st, 2007The first Girls Under-19 Indoor Beach Tournament took place last weekend at Whitchurch, Bristol at the Action Indoor Sports Arena. With two girls from separate teams withdrawing during the week due to still being overseas, the hunt was on to find two more players. Thanks go to Katie Hamilton and Annie Tinker who stepped in at the last moment enabling Kim Smith and Georgie Tinker to play.
Results were
6th place: Georgie Tinker/Annie Tinker
5th place: Amy Pattenden/Amelie Exton
4th place: Kelly Woolford/Lauren Powell
3rd place: Kate Pearce/Lizzie Smith
2nd place: Kim Smith/Katie Hamilton
1st place: Steph Smith/Natalie Smith
The final was quite evenly matched with the first set going to Kim/Katie 15-8 and the second set 15-12 to Steph/Nat. In the 3rd and final set Steph and Nat found a second wind and started with a good run of serves. Kim and Katie fought back and trying different strategies, they won a few points but each time the serve went back to Steph/Nat and more points were in the bank. Steph/Nat also made some brilliant pick ups which had the small group of spectators gasping, well done to the them, they played their best game and deserved the win.
Player of the tournament who played in the best spirit of the game was voted by most players to be Annie Tinker. She also played in the exhibition match with Emily Singleton and Helena Lumley who won against Melksham's Catherine Elliott, Diana Chard and Rosie Kirk 2-1.
We would like to thank our sponsors Action Indoor Sports, Aqualeisure Melksham and Sportset, also Jon McGugan for taking the photos and Steffen Paessler who left the beach to come along and referee the final for the girls.
Also recently an exhibition match was held at the arena between Melksham and Wessex U14 boys. Winners were Wessex 2-1. Boys taking part were Matt Hunter, Ryan Merrell, Ryan Palmer, Rob Cannings, Josh Smith and Jamie Wilkins. |
